We have an exceptional opportunity for a Tooling Buyer to join a global client at their newest state of the art steel pipe mill.  They have thousands of employees across 38 countries. They are an industry leader and use cutting edge technologies!  You will use your negotiating skills to support Purchasing activities for the ongoing operations and special mill projects.

  • Negotiates with suppliers on a regular basis.
  • Prepares procurement contracts, resolves and prevents backorders
  • Purchase and organize delivery of major spend categories for operations to achieve on-time delivery at an economical price.
  • Creates and manages RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Develop and deploy strategies for assigned commodities.
  • Achieve cost savings objectives.
  • Purchase items for the hot rolling mill including stands, mandrel bars, piercing plugs, rolls,
  • Purchase Material and Services according to the procedures and in alignment with published strategies
  • Ensure all purchasing responsibilities within the procurement process are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all supplier and transactional data is entered into and maintained within SAP accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to identify and resolve problems or improve processes.
  • Mentors and trains associates as needed to help better understand the equipment and services that this position supports.
  • To continue purchasing quality materials at a reduced cost.
  • Managing the daily demands on this position while meeting the needs of the plant.

  • BA/BS in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience in heavy industry.
  • Experienced with project buying and chemical buying and supplier contracts.
  • Experienced with MRO purchasing for Maintenance Repair Operations.
  • Must have previous experience purchasing manufacturing tooling.   
  • Can demonstrate a track record of cost savings and negotiations
  • Knowledge of contract laws and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong preference for steel mill operations buying items like stands, mandrel bars, piercing plugs, and rolls
  • Previous tooling purchasing experience in a pipe mill or steel mill is a plus.
  • SAP experience highly desirable.
  • Advanced education is a plus
  • C.P.M. - Certified Purchasing Manager, CPSM - Certified Professional in Supply Management is a plus
