Duties

  • Provide technical leadership in Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) to ensure fissile materials are processed, stored, and handled safely
  • Support plant operation by reviewing procedures and proposed plant modifications.
  • Produce high quality documentation to establish limits and controls to support the NCS program.
  • Perform tracking and trending of Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) performance.
  • Perform maintenance and support NCS operability or engineering evaluations when necessary.
  • Prepare NCS Evaluations and NCS Determinations when qualified.
  • Prepare disposition of problem reports.
  • Identify and evaluate project issues and problems.
  • Perform project engineering functions involving monitoring progress and preparation of procedures.
  • Conduct surveillances, inspections, walkthroughs, appraisals, or audits of fissile material operations to ensure compliance with approvals.
  • Prepare forecasts, quality take-offs, and change orders.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate potential technologies.
  • Apply industrial safety and radiological safety practices for all field activities and engineering functions
  • Responsible for technical ownership of assigned NCS projects.
  • Assist in training preparation and facilitation.
  • Develop resolution of technical problems in accordance with established procedures (including but not limited to: Non-conformance Evaluations, Operability Determinations, and Quality Level determinations)
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in a timely fashion
  • Ensure compliance with DOE regulations and standards.
  • Interface with other technical and production organizations to compile technical information required for documentation preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Engineering from an accredited university required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Nuclear Regulatory Commission or Department of Energy licensed facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of pertinent codes, governing regulations and industry practices
  • Must be U.S. Citizen
  • Proficiency in SCALE (KENO) or MCNP
  • Criticality Safety and/or integrated safety analysis experience
  • Understanding of multiple engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) core functions and guiding principles, and understanding of how safety is integrated into engineering functions
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE security clearance.
  • Skilled with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) focused on developing and obtaining approval for common criticality safety software on multiple platforms.
  • PE License is a plus
  • Advanced Education is a plus
