Exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic, business-minded HR Business Partner to join a global chemical / mineral company. This is a newly created role to help with developing and implementing programs, plans and practices for a 700+ person chemical manufacturing operation. You will utilize your experience with organizational development, talent management and employee relations in this key role. You will participate on compensation and benefits, HRIS administration and recruiting. This position reports to the head of Human Resources.

 

                                                                                            

Duties

  • Establish yourself as a key, go-to people partner for operations, manufacturing and HR peers.
  • Maintain relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Promote and foster an environment of open communication and honest,
  • Discover, develop and implement optimal organizational designs and talent management systems that evolve with the needs of the business.
  • Identify and collaborate on the critically few important issues while instinctively working through day to day employee relations concerns.
  • Promote organizational growth and teamwork throughout the company.
  • Compliance with applicable State and Federal Regulations related to employment, safety and environment is an important part of this position.
    • Implementing new and improving existing HR / talent processes.
    • Create a more robust recruiting, new hire orientation and onboarding process.
    • Assess specific hiring criteria and define candidate profiles to ensure the right talent is selected
    • Create optimal organizational designs, including organizational structure, pay, talent development, succession planning, etc.
    • Develop and implement talent management systems
    • Inform senior management about noteworthy trending topics within the organization.
    • Answer questions related to employee relations, company policies and CA state and Federal labor law.
    • Be a resource to managers and employees for constructive engagement on dealing with work and people related issues.
    • When needed, mediate simple to somewhat difficult interactions and escalate issues to management as appropriate.
    • Approve all disciplinary actions to ensure consistency, proper documentation, and due process.
    • Investigate reported incidents, document fact-finding investigations and make recommendations for timely resolution.
    • Coah management and employees on HR programs, employment/labor laws, change management, diversity, and organizational development.
    • Knowledgeable in Federal and State laws including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, etc.

 

  • Support pay for performance philosophy and other talent management principles

 

  • Coach managers about how to execute and document performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions and compliance.   
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of HR experience with a medium to large employer
  • Must have previous experience strategic employee relations, employee engagement and talent management
  • Familiarity with immigration laws, regulations and policies governing foreign nationals is preferred.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR) preferred
  • Must know compliance issues and requirements of key labor and employment laws.
  • Skilled with computerized HRIS systems

 

    • Must be able to overcome barriers to implement solutions.
    • Have capability to be a strategic thinker
    • Possess a “hands-on” implementation /project management skills.
    • Ability to successfully mediate and resolve conflict.

 

  • Knowledge of California law is a plus.
  • Advanced education is a plus.
  • Professional training / certifications are a plus.
